Dance Auditions
Making the Most of Dance Auditions
Many people who dream of becoming professional dancers spend a lot of time preparing for dance auditions. A dance audition is usually what helps to determine whether a dancer has what it takes to enter the industry on a professional basis. Auditions can be rough and grueling, and many dancers attend several of them before they actually get chosen. And each time they face rejection, they need to head back home and start the preparation process all over again.
Dancers usually attend auditions to either enter dance competitions or become a part of a dance company. Here is a little information about each of them:
Dance Competitions – some dancers decide to go the route of trying out for dance competitions. Dance competitions happen annually around the country and allow dancers to compete individually or as part of a group. Most competitions are usually divided into two sections: the regional competition and the national competition. Dancers can get good recognition from entering a dance competition if they do the kind of dancing that stands out.
Dance Company or Dance Program – other dancers strive to achieve success in the field of dance by attending dance auditions for a professional dance company or dance program. It is quite fulfilling for a dancer to become part of a dance company, especially one that is well recognized. Depending on how successful their dance program is dancers can earn good salaries from a dance company.
Dancing Classes
In preparation for an audition dance, there are several related adult dance classes you could attend to acquire the skill level needed to do well:
Hip Hop Dance Classes – attending hip hop dance classes allows you to get experience in this diverse and popular dance form. Hip hop allows dancers to express themselves by putting their spin on the traditional popping, locking and breaking techniques of hip hop.
Salsa Dance Lessons – salsa is another type of dance technique that gives dancers room to express themselves. There are about 8 variations of the original Cuban salsa today, so dancers can play around with them and audition with the one they are most comfortable with.
Lyrical Dance Classes – this is the perfect style that dancers can do at dance auditions if they want to stand out. Lyrical dance definitely relies on a dancer’s ability to stir emotion in the audience by using facial expressions and body movement to project the meaning and feeling of a song’s lyrical content.
Once you attend any of these classes and advise the dance choreographers that you are preparing for one or two dance auditions, they can usually help to prepare you by teaching you some impressive choreography. Your responsibility would then be to master the moves and make them your own.

However, this is the type of field that requires perseverance, will and desire if you want to achieve success. Making the most of your auditions will definitely pay off one day.
